Providing AEDs During SCA Awareness Month

October is SCA Awareness Month. The owner of Junk Masters, Tiffany is herself a survivor of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), so we couldn’t let it pass by without saying something.

In July 2022, Tiffany unexpectedly experienced SCA and thankfully received CPR within 30 seconds of her heart stopping. Just a few weeks after the incident, she was back on her feet and on the job. She has thankfully made a full recovery with no mental or physical ailments and attributes a lot of that to the fantastic care she received during the first minutes, hours, and days of the incident.

It is crucial to take quick action in the event of SCA by starting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or administering shock from an automated external defibrillator (AED). Calling 9-1-1 and getting someone to find an AED are important. But starting CPR can truly save a life.

Junk Masters Donating Proceeds to Fund AEDs

Although they are life-saving, we have found that there are a surprisingly low number of AEDs accessible to the public. During October, Junk Masters will donate a portion of all proceeds to purchase AEDs. We encourage all businesses to consider having one, especially if workers are doing dangerous tasks or you have a large team.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest takes more than 350,000 lives each year and is the leading cause of death in America. Truly anyone of any age can experience SCA, including people who have no sign of heart disease.

The only chance of survival is if the victim receives life-saving defibrillation from an AED within the first four to six minutes. Every minute that passes without a shock from an AED decreases the chance of survival by 10%. Administering hands-only CPR can be a bridge to life until an AED arrives.

Make a difference and save a life. Learn CPR.

How to Get Rid of Scrap Metal

Do you have an old metal desk, shelf, broken grill, or other bulky scrap metal items you’d like to get rid of? Especially if you cannot fit the items in your trash can? If you’re able to move those items to your driveway, you may be able to utilize an inexpensive option to get rid of those large items.

Scrap metal is always in demand. Often, you can often find “scrappers” in your area who will pick up items for free. They take the items and repurpose them (if possible) or resell the metal at a local metal junkyard.

Sometimes you may find a scrap hauler driving around your neighborhood before trash day. If you see some looking at the garbage piles, just flag them down. While this is certainly an option for you to get rid of your scrap metal items, it may be more reassuring and effective if you set up a scrap metal pickup with someone instead.

🚲How do you setup a scrap metal pickup?⚓️

  1. Bring the items outside and create a pile. The first thing you want to do is get your scrap metal together to see what you have. Next, clear them from your home. Most scrap haulers do not have insurance or a business established, so there’s a liability to having them in your home. Bringing items outside also makes it easier to schedule a pickup.
  2. Take a photo or two of your pile. It is best to photograph the pile from multiple sides and bring attention to any large or heavy items. Scrappers may be driving 20-30+ miles for your pickup so they’ll likely want to know the trip is worthwhile.
  3. List it on Facebook, Nextdoor, Craigslist, etc. with a description of what needs to be removed and a deadline. List items that may be repurposed and the condition of items. Also indicate whether you are willing to split out items or want someone to come and get the whole pile.
  4. Pick the one which seems the best fit. You will likely get many responses. You may want to select someone living in your general area, or just the first person who responds who seems like they can handle the job.

Need a Professional Option?

Have heavy items or hard-to-move items? Need items brought out of your home? Not able to move items yourself? Junk Masters pros also remove scrap metal items for a fee, primarily based on the volume the items take up. Appliances that contain freon have an additional environmental recycling fee and, due to weight, some items require special equipment for removal which may result in additional charges.

Our team members are fully licensed and insured and have the strength, know-how, and equipment to get even the largest removal tasks done. Call or text Junk Masters at 317-456-2055 with information about your project to learn how we can get rid of your scrap metal today.

Commercial Property Cleanout

Has a tenant left a few things behind at your property? Do you have a property or warehouse in need of a commercial property cleanout service? Junk Masters is happy to offer commercial warehouse and property cleanouts as well as residential cleanouts. Don’t stress about that cleanout project – call in the pros!

Warehouse Cleanout in Noblesville IN

In a recent commercial cleanout project we completed in Noblesville, our client was left with a warehouse full of discarded clothing. After quick inspection, we found that most of the items were unusable with stains, tears, and many otherwise undesirable used unmentionables. It almost seemed as if the clothes had been filtered through for quality items, and only the discards remained. We thought these items might have been considered for sale as clothing bales for pennies a pound — but it looked like the tenant’s textile baling business had been abandoned before that could happen.

There was literally a mountain of bags and bundles of clothing in this commercial warehouse, taller than my head. Each of the bags weighed 100-150 lbs and there was a risk of the bags starting a landslide as you tried to pull them apart. The heap and its weight was rather overwhelming if one was going to move it by hand — and these were not items that any resale company or donation center would want to sort through. We weren’t even sure the clothing was safe or free from drugs or paraphilia since we had no idea what the origin of the clothing was.

Clothing Mountain

We attempted to connect with a textile recycler in the Indianapolis area that might be able to take the items in 15 cubic yard loads — but unfortunately found there were not any. So instead we transported all of these textiles away to the nearest transfer station. And from there, it is burned up into energy at a local power facility in Indiana. It’s recycling at its finest.

Our Commercial Property Cleanout Strategy

It was clear from the start that completing this project by hand was going to be backbreaking and take forever. At Junk Masters, we utilize top-of-the-line equipment to complete your junk removal project. In this case we needed our 15 cubic yard dump trailer and our Bobcat MT100 mini-skidsteer. These powerful tools allowed us to eliminate 90 cubic yards of textiles which weighed 12 tons in no time!

Within just a few days we had this commercial warehouse cleaned out and ready to be put back on the market. Our licensed and insured junk removal professionals eliminated the piles safely,  efficiently, and responsibly. Junk Masters has full commercial liability insurance and never illegally dumps the items we remove.

Don’t let mountains of trash, furniture, or debris prevent you from getting your rental back to making money. Get the professionals at Junk Masters to eliminate all your junk headaches at your commercial property. Text or call us today at (317) 456-2055.

7 Ways to Prepare for a Move

Are you planning on moving soon? It’s a big life moment and it can cause a lot of stress if you are not prepared for what lays ahead. If you are downsizing, you have an even larger challenge to conquer! Not only do you need to pack, but you have to get rid of so much.

Don’t give up hope, though! You can make it through, especially with the following tips!

  1. Give yourself as much time as possible. It seems logical enough, but if you are considering a move any time in the future, NOW is the time to get started with decluttering and deciding what is important enough to move. If you haven’t moved in a long time (20 years or more), it’s possible that you will have many outdated items in your home, from medications to office products to electronics. These can be taken to local recycling partners or may be able to be thrown away in your local trash. Or you may want to call in assistance like a decluttering pro or a junk removal company like Junk Masters.
  2. Declutter before you pack. Have you ever done a huge purge of stuff and just felt better afterwards? Having less causes lower amounts of stress. You don’t need to worry about organizing it, knowing where it is, or when you’ll next use it. If you can’t remember the last time you wore something or used it, you definitely don’t need it. The less you move, the lower you moving bill also. You pay for every box you move, either with the moving company or when you move it yourself. Make sure what you’re moving matters.
  3. Inventory the contents of your boxes. If you are packing long-term or doing a big move, keeping an inventory of the contents of your moving boxes can be a lifesaver. You may want to do this with paper lists, lists in your favorite app that can be searched, or via photos of the contents of each box. Number boxes and mark them with a few important items as well to keep track of items important to you and your family.
  4. Fill in the gaps in your boxes. When boxes are flipped upside down, nothing inside should move around. If you are using a moving company, you want to be extra sure that boxes are fully packed and do not have big air pockets. Things get shifted and placed weirdly during moves and you don’t want everything moving around inside, causing damage.
  5. Plan services and reservations ahead of time. Think about the utility services you will need to set up and reserve. Make sure that you can get the movers on the day you need, get all your trash out and home clean, and also get things like internet and electricity switched over for a smooth transition.
  6. Pack in stages. Moving your home can be a huge task, so start with items that you know you won’t need often before your move like books, DVDs, off-season clothes and so on. This also allows you time to consider what you don’t need anymore or won’t have space for in your new home as you go. (Declutter, declutter, declutter!)
  7. Back up files and pack important documents. There are certain items you always want to keep track of, so you can keep a small box on-the-ready during the moving process that helps you keep those items in sight all the time. Checkbooks, contracts, identification documents, and other similar important documents should all go in there for you to move personally.

Hopefully these 7 tips will get you well on your way to a happy and easy move. If you need assistance getting rid of unwanted furniture, e-waste, trash, or more, Junk Masters is here to help. We provide junk removal services in Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Pendleton, Anderson, and surrounding areas in Indiana. Is Junk Removal in Indianapolis Free?

You’ve realized that you have a garage full of stuff to get rid of, from furniture to boxes of junk. But how? You may be thinking that surely someone will want to come and take your stuff for free? You will find many social media marketplaces loaded with ads for free playhouses, swing sets, hot tubs and more. Some of these connections work out and you have a happy transaction. But should those ads for free pickup fall through and you still find yourself with that soiled couch in the basement, what do you do next?

If you have access to a large truck or a trailer, you may be able to transport items away yourself. Will that be free? No. There are gas expenses, your time, and perhaps rental fees for the truck or trailer. Then, when you get to the local transfer station, there will be an additional fee. Most of them in the Indianapolis area charge $25 or more per cubic yard. It often surprises people that there is such a charge for the disposal of items – but getting rid of trash gets more expensive all the time. If you drive a king size mattress and two twin box springs to a transfer station for disposal, you will often be looking at fees of $150-200 or more for disposal.

For some homeowners, pickup from your local trash services may be an option, especially if you only have one or two things. To utilize this service usually requires reaching out to them, registering a pickup, paying an additional fee per item, and waiting for their schedule date (usually once a month for your area) to arrive.

If you’re looking to be a bit more hands off, you need something gone quickly, or you’re tired of moving it around (or just physically can’t), professional junk removal services in Indianapolis are a great place to start. Junk Masters is one option for junk removal. When you hire a pro, you don’t need to move everything again or worry with how you will transport it to the dump. Whether the items you are getting rid of are piled together or still sitting in the bedroom or basement space where you last used them, a fully insured junk removal service can carefully and thoughtfully remove them from your home without causing any damage.

Professional junk removal services are also not free. Much like removing the items yourself, we incur similar costs. What sort of costs do junk businesses face, you ask? Junk Masters is a registered corporation in Indiana and we have maintenance fees for our trailers and truck, commercial insurance fees, gas charges, and fees for disposal of your property.  Some items such as televisions, freon-containing devices, tires, and paint have additional environmental disposal fees as well.
